Byron Bay Wedding Photographer

Byron weddings tend to go a bit like this: ceremony in the sunshine, a lunch that somehow runs four hours, shoes off by six and a dance floor nobody wants to leave. Honestly? My favourite kind of day.

Byron's just over the border from my place on the Gold Coast, which makes me a pretty handy Byron Bay wedding photographer to have up your sleeve. Getting to work with the Cape Byron lighthouse down the road? Not a bad gig.

how I photograph a Byron wedding

Mostly, I blend in and become part of the day, catching the hugs you didn't see, the speeches that have everyone crying laughing, and all those little moments that make it feel like *your* wedding. I want you to be fully in it, soaking up the atmosphere, spending time with your favourite people and enjoying every second. Portraits are quick and painless, and don't worry, I'll tell you what to do with your hands... I promise. You've got a party to get back to!

And then there's Byron itself. The coastal views, the salty air, the headland, the hinterland and that beautiful late-afternoon light, there's so much that makes getting married here feel special. The weather and light can have a mind of their own, but that's all part of the charm. Where possible, we'll work with the conditions rather than against them: making the most of a bit of shade, finding a sheltered spot if the wind picks up, and sneaking away for portraits when the light starts to soften.

Byron Bay wedding venues

Byron does venues really well. The hinterland is where a lot of the magic happens: places like The Farm Byron Bay, Fig Tree Restaurant and Byron View Farm give you rolling green hills, big old trees and long tables made for lazy lunches. Down on the coast, it's all about the beach and the salty, relaxed vibe.

Wherever you're getting married, I'll do my homework on the property before the day: where the light falls for the ceremony, the best spot for portraits, and where we go if the weather turns.

spots for portraits

Wategos at sunset is a classic for a reason. The walk up to the lighthouse is stunning if you don't mind a few tourists in the background (I'll do my best to dodge them). Tallows is wilder and usually quieter.

Some of the prettiest light in Byron is in a paddock behind the venue, with the sun coming through an old fig. Usually the best spot is a two minute walk from your reception. It's all about timing.

Autumn is hard to beat: the water's still warm, the humidity drops off and the light goes soft. Spring is gorgeous too, with clear days and the jacarandas popping up through the Northern Rivers. Summer is beautiful but it's storm season and the town is packed, so have a solid plan B.

Travel to Byron is included in all my packages. No surprises.

Do you photograph Byron Bay elopements?

Yes please! Small and barefoot is very much my thing. Here's my elopement photography page.

What if it rains?

Then we get moody, cosy photos and a very good story. Most Byron venues have a wet weather option up their sleeve, and we'll sort ours on the planning call.

Do you know our venue?

I always do my homework on your venue well before the day: where the light falls, where we'll go for portraits.
